According to the data of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, the total domestic alumina output in the first half of 2012 was 19.0621 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.67%. In the first half of the year, the average year-on-year growth rate of single month output was 9.00%, a year-on-year decrease of 4.74 percentage points, showing the downward trend of growth rate of domestic alumina output.
According to statistics, the domestic alumina output in the first half of 2011 was 17.367 million tons, the average year-on-year growth rate of single month output in the first half of 2011 was 13.74%, and the average year-on-year growth rate of single month output in 2011 was 16.51%. After entering 2012, the year-on-year growth rate of alumina production per month obviously tends to decline.
SMM believes that this is mainly due to the slowdown in the new production capacity of domestic alumina and the maintenance and production reduction of many domestic alumina plants. In addition, 2011 was a year of relatively concentrated investment in domestic alumina production capacity. In 2011, the total output of alumina was 34.0776 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.69%.
From January to June this year, the pace of new production capacity of domestic alumina slowed down significantly. Only Yunnan Aluminum, Guizhou guangaluminum, Chinalco Shanxi and Henan nonferrous metals Huiyuan had new production capacity put into operation, and the production capacity was mostly concentrated from June to July, which had a relatively small impact on the total output of alumina in the first half of the year.
In addition, affected by Indonesia's policy of restricting the export of bauxite, since June, domestic alumina plants relying on imported ore represented by Chinalco have reduced their output one after another to deal with the output risk caused by insufficient supply of raw materials. At the same time, domestic electrolytic aluminum enterprises have increased the import of alumina to make up for the market gap caused by the suspension and reduction of alumina enterprises to a certain extent.
